Hotel 20°SudHotel in Grand Baie
“We selected A Piattatella based on other reviews and were not misled. The location around the bend from a mountainside hamlet was great. The views of the valleys and mountains from almost every vantage point of the hotel were simply amazing. The decoration of the hotel and the rooms was smart, creative, and very attractive. The restaurant service was excellent and the food was fresh, thoughtful, delicious – perfect (and very reasonably priced for the quality). We stayed in the Sant’ Angelo room, which was quiet, incredibly large, spotlessly clean, beautifully decorated, and had a private balcony with the best view of the entire hotel. Wifi worked perfectly for our entire stay. The owners and staff were incredibly warm, attentive and professional in every way. The common grounds, landscaping, and pool / spa facilities were beautiful. This is the kind of hotel that tempts you not to leave. I cannot wait to go back again some day.”
Our story is like that of many other couples who throw themselves enthusiastically and naïvely into a vaguely defined adventure, equipped only with a solid work ethic and a desire to share with others. Thus Thierry, a skipper, and Valérie, a HR consultant, became self-taught hotel managers…
The locals considered that the maquis shrubland where the hotel would materialise was on the wrong side of the village: too steep to be cultivated and too rocky to serve as pastureland. The ancients named it “A Petricaghju”, which means “the scree”. For many years it was relegated to use as a quarry, and its
granite blocks were used to build the first houses of the village of Monticello. Within seconds of arriving here, we fell in love with this forsaken
parcel of land. As newlyweds, we were convinced that the place was pure magic: a breath-taking view, centuries-old trees, dry stone walls, nooks and crannies… After having built our house here, we could no longer resist the compelling desire to share the tranquillity of this land and bring it to its full potential.
